Minutes of the Board of Anson County Commissioners – Volume 2 page 416 – July 2, 1883 – Ordered by the Board of Commissioners that the Sheriff of Anson County issue a license to Marshall L. Doty to retail spirituous liquors by measure of less than a quart in the house known as the Henry Powell house on Martin Street in the town of Wadesboro from this date until January 1st 1884, he having produced satisfactory evidence of goo moral character & the sheriff will collect the taxes provided by law, this July 2nd 1883
