Buffalo Island on Pee Dee river

I have seen Buffalo Island on the Pee Dee river referenced several times on genealogy sites. One of my ancestors, Benjamin Dumas is supposed to have ran a ferry nearby. Does any one know where Buffalo Island is or was?
