I don't know if the island was covered with water from backed up water from the dams. If you didn't know it, Montgomery County, NC suffered a courthouse fire in 1841 so there is basically nothing available at their local research facilities like the courthouse & library for the time period before 1841. Montgomery County was formed from Anson County in 1779 & the NC State Archives has on file oroginal records pertaining to Montgomery County for the time period of 1779 thru 1841. Anson County died suffer a courthouse fire in 1868 & while many records were consumed in the fire like the marriage records & Equity Court records, the land records date back to 1745 even though Anson County wasn't created from Bladen County either in 1748 or 1749 & the Wills date back to 1751. Email me at staticchair28170@yahoo.com & when I hear from you I'll email my website regarding Anson County/Chesterfield County
SC genealogy. The best to you -- Steve Bailey
