I am helping a friend research the above family.
What I know is that in 1910, we find the family in Washington, Beaufort County -- listed as Charles L Thomas and Hattie Thomas. They have a 3 year old child, a 1 year old child, an unnamed infant and a brother of Hattie (sometimes called Ella -- maybe a middle name?!?) ... who might be Charles ... living with them.
Figuring that they were possibly married in Beaufort County c. 1906, someone looked in the published brides index and found a union for Charles Thomas to Hattie E Lewis. I have no further information about the marriage.
By 1920, they have moved to Columbus County, Whiteville.
So, that is where I'm stuck! So, if anyone is researching THOMAS or LEWIS and has come across "Charles Lafayette" or "Hattie E" or can some ideas for Beaufort sources beyond GenWeb and the local genealogy society, that would be much appreciated!
