You are looking for the same families as I am. What clues do you have for the name of the daughter of Matthew Welch who m. James Clifford of Beaufort Co., NC? There is a folder in the file drawer of the Washington Genealogy Section of the local library that tells about the Ecklin brothers, Robert and Joshua who went to Shelby Co, TN, bought land and then returned to Beaufort Co to gather up about 35 families and take them by wagon to Shelby Co. On the 1850 census you will find the family of Wm. Clifford, oldest son of James and Eliz. Acklin Clifford next door to Joshua Ecklin, and in the household of Robert Ecklin you will find his family including his wife Lucinda Ecklin, the former Lucinda Edwards, dau. of Lucinda Cone Clifford Edwards. Lucinda Edwards, Sr. was a widow then and is also living in the same household with her daughter and son in law. Lucinda Edwards, Sr. died about 1853 and is buried in the Sun More Cemetery with other members of the Ecklin family. After her death, her oldest living grandson, Wm. Clifford moved to Rusk Co., TX where his brother, Nasa Clifford lived and stayed there until about 1875. By 1880 Wm. Clifford is listed on the census in Miller Co., AR with his wife and son, John H. Clifford. I cannot find where Wm. is buried nor his son, John. If you have info, please share it. What proof do you have on the daughters of Matthew Welch, and which one m. James Clifford. Some think it was Elizabeth, but I have no proof. Do you? Valerie Hamilton
