I have been working to identify all the Confederate Veterans buried in Pinecrest Cemetery in Granite Falls, Caldwell County, NC. Replacement stones will be ordered for the following: Pvt. Darius Cline, Pvt. John W. S. McCall. News stones will be installed for the following soldiers who died on battlefields: Pvt. William Franklin Poovey, Pvt. George Mull, his brother, Pvt. Daniel A. Mull; Pvt. Simon Starnes, Pvt. Henry Hill Hayes, Pvt. John Wesley Hayes, 2nd Lt. Abner Burgess Hayes, Pvt. John Sherrill, and Pvt. Noah Wike.
Once the new stones have been installed, members of the Alexander County Rocky Face Rangers camp and Caldwell County Pettigrew camp of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, along with members of the SC Palmetto Battalion and members of the Order of the Confederate Rose will hold a dedication and memorial service for these soldiers and veterans. The date of the service will be announced at a later date.
Other veterans buried in Pinecrest, who have gravestones, are 1st Sgt. Ephraim Elcana Cline, Pvt. James W. Franklin Clay, Pvt. George W. Lafayette Mize, Pvt. David H. Mull, Pvt. Pleasant Green Moore, Pvt. John Conley Sherrill, Pvt. John Icard, and Pvt. Calvin Tibertus Flowers. These veterans will also be honored during the memorial service.
