True... and don't know what I was thinking, it is Mays Chapel. I am looking into the Evan Thomas family who lived near the mouth of Bear Creek not far from Mays Chapel. Evan Thomas moved to Anson County in 1770's and from a court case in Chatham, his land in Anson was sold. So was his land on Bear Creek and Stinking Creek in Chatham. Interestingly, it was William May in Anson who was Sheriff who sold his land there. William is directly linked to the MAY family of Chatham County.
