James Francis McGEE married Martha E.
The information I have found from other researchers is that Martha E was Martha GARRISON and they married 23 Feb 1865 in Cherokee County, NC
But, there is a marriage license and certificate in Cherokee County for a Francis McGEE and Martha ROLAND. The marriage license is dated 22 Feb 1865 [very close to quoted date for marriage of James Francis McGEE and Martha GARRISON]. The date on the marriage certificate is 12 Mar 1865.
I have found absolutely no evidence for another McGEE with given name or middle name of Francis in the Cherokee county area. James Francis' father was Francis aka Frank but he died before 1850.
I anyone researching the McGEE or GARRISON or ROLAND lines who can help shed some light on this?
I personally think that Martha who married James Francis McGEE was Martha ROLAND.
Was she maybe a GARRISON who had a brief first marriage to a ROLAND. She would have been almost 20 when she married James Francis McGEE.
