Hi Harriet It is always good to hear from a descendant of Capt. Aaron Smith Thanks for responding to my post. My cousin Mary Ellen Smith was instrumental is having the memorial erected in Due West, SC. She and some other cousins were present at the time it was installed by the DAR. I am very much interested in having a plot of Ezekiel Smith's land. He moved to Island Creek in Hancock County Georgia about 1794. The best information that I have is that Aaron was born on the coast near the state line between Va and NC. Carraway family history claims that his father was a John Smith. Others claim that he had many brothers and that there were many biblical names. The internet trees show a Aaron Smith from Ireland. Most of these are copied from Anita Quales ? Sp. I questioned her and she had no proof. I think that there is some connection between the Whitfield, Felps, and Smith families that may have a key to the ancestors of Aaron. As you know I descended from Ezekiel, Ezekiel Francis, General Daniel Newnan Smith, Madison (Mack) Grey Smith, and Eugene Spence Smith. The best well documented source for Thomas Keeling Smith and his descendants is the book "Captain Aaron Smith and his Descendants" by Calista Vern Leonard 1995. She was last known to be living in the Atria Senior Community at 1550 East River Road, Tucson, Az 85718.(I hope she is still alive.) The phone number shown is the same as that of her old residence. Her husband's name is Ernest B. Leonard. Try to contact Calista as soon as you can and ask her to sell you a copy of her wonderful book. It has a page about Neals.
