Hi, Helen. Don’t know how much help I can offer, but I can at least provide some dates, as I believe some of the census records to be incorrect (big surprise there, huh?) I am a direct descendant of Caleb Wynne and the Wynnes of Craven County. In fact he, as well as a few other names you may find interesting, are buried in our small Wynne family graveyard not more than 30 yards from where I am sitting. I was just starting my own genealogy search today and ventured there to copy names and dates from the headstones earlier today and then came across your post. Here is what I found: W.N. Dennis Wynne March 9, 1868 - January 17, 1918 Lan Dennis Wynne December 10, 1898 - June 16, 1918 Jessie Dennis Wynne May 5, 1901 - December 31, 1964 Caleb Joshua Wynne December 3, 1898 - December 10, 1970 Albert Joshua Wynne February 10, 1925 - June 1, 1981 I believe the census records to be incorrect, since in 1880, Caleb Wynne would have been 18, not 22 as the records state. I’m wondering if the records are incorrect about W.Y. Wynne, since the only record I found was W.N. Wynne; I’m wondering if it’s the same person and the second initial was misinterpreted. William Wynne is a family name, one that we recycle; I have 3 immediate family members named so. In fact, being that they were all farmers and all related, the Wynnes you mentioned probably had farming property on the area where my house is now. My own grandfather, William Ashford “Red” Wynne was probably the last of the Wynne farmers of this family. I know this wasn’t much, but I hope it helps a little; I would be very glad to read through any information you have about the Wynnes of Craven County from any year.
