Dear David: I emailed you, but in case that does not reach you I'd like to bring to your attention another Rice family that lived in the same counties of Craven and Wake (plus adjacent counties of Beaufort, Granville and Caswell) during the same time period. This was the family of Benjamin Rice, who moved with his sons from Calvert Co., MD, to Craven Co., NC, about 1730. Benjamin's father, Evan Rice, immigrated from England to MD in 1677. Benjamin's 8 sons were Zebulon, Benjamin Jr., James, Evan, Cleaverly, Ephraim, Hezekiah and Gideon. Benjamin died in Beaufort Co., NC, about 1745. Six of his sons remained in Craven Co. and left many descendants there. A son and a grandson moved to Granville Co. and another son moved to Caswell Co. A possible great-grandson, Presley Rice, was born in Wake Co. in 1770, and he moved to Wash. Co., VA, about 1806 and on to Jefferson Co., TN, later in life. This family may be related to my ancestor, William Rice, who was born in MD about the 1730s and died in either Wash. Co., VA, or Claiborne Co., TN, in 1810 (and whose line continued through John Robert Rice, Stephen Rice and Benjamin A. Rice). They may also be related to the line of another William Rice, son of James Rice and brother of Elijah and Ezekiel Rice, all of whom lived in Montgomery Co./Wythe Co., VA, in the 1770s - 1790s and later moved to Carter Co., KY, where they left many descendants. (This is the line related to Martha Rice.) If you or anyone else has additional data on the line of the above Benjamin Rice, please advise. Any descendants or any Rices who may still reside in the Craven Co./Beaufort Co., NC, area are invited to take YDNA tests to determine if they are in Group 5 of the Rice DNA project. The tests are easy to take, and I may help defray the cost. Thank you, Roger Rice Notify Administrator about this message?
