Vincent/Vinson White

Hello,

We seem to all have some interest in the Currituck Co, NC White families! I have a Vincent White b. 1760-1767 NC that I feel may belong to them but, like y'all, can't find the connection.

He stated in his 1851 Rev War Pension Application that he was born in 1767 (he was unsure of that year..census records suggest 1760-1765)in Craven Co, NC near New Bern. He enlisted in 1779 (at age 12) in Guilford Co, NC. He was discharged four years, 16 days later "in his 16th yr" which would validate his enlistment age as 12 and birth yr of 1767.

Another researcher, from this same line (different sibling) has said that Luke White (father of Vinson/Vincent White)whose will was probated in 1758 had property in Craven Co, which of course just fuels our thoughts on there being a connection. Vincent is not a common White name. Most that we have found lead back to Currituck Co.

Based on census info, we think his migration from the Guilford area was Craven Co, NC (1790), Edgefield Co, SC (1800), Hancock Co, GA (sometime bet 1800-1812), Putnam Co, GA (1812-1813), Hall Co GA (1820-to bef 1830) he is on the 1827 GA Land Lottery as a RS shown still living in Hall Co and three of his children & 2 grandchildren are listed as late as 1828 on the Hall Co, GA Poor School Rolls, Bibb Co, AL (1830), possibly Houston Co, Rep of TX (2 sons & 2 grandsons are there in the late 1830's), and his last 13 yrs were in Lafayette Co, AR (abt 1838-1851), per his pension application. His age in 1851 was bet 84-91, depending on his birth yr bet 1760-1761. If any of your Whites traveled a similar route, let me know, so I can watch for them, just in case they might be siblings/cousins of my Vincent.

This family was nothing short of devoted when it came to recycling names. For the boys, John, Robert, Simon/Simeon & William (a few Henry's); for the girls, Jane, Margaret, Elizabeth, Sarah, Emily, Susan, Martha, Mary & Rebecca are in EVERY generation born for at least 100 years. I've not had the time to extend the siblings lines into the 1900's yet so don't know if that continued. The one odd girls name that was passed down is "Lutilda", often mistaken and recorded as Matilda. I have seen it spelled Loutilda, Latilda, & Lashilda in addition to the correct spelling of Lutilda. This may be a name from Vincent's wife's line as usually it is given to the 1st or 2nd daughter born in the family.

All of Vincent's children ALWAYS traveled together. Given that, I suspect quite a few of the Whites, along his travels, may have been siblings of Vincent's but, so far, haven't made any connections to him. There are many John, Robert & William White's on the 1827 Lottery but there is also a Luke White Jr on it and a Simeon White in Hall Co...both names appear in lines from Currituck Co.

If any of you have run across ANY NC White families that have a Vincent in them, I would appreciate the information and will keep my eye out for any Patrick Whites! In fact, I'm going to retrace Vincent's travels to see if there were any living around him.

Thanks for any input...it took us decades to get beyond Vincent's grandson, William Vincent White (my g grandfather), and when we did, we found the entire family pod in AR so of course, our desire to find his origins have been renewed!
Faye
