On the mysterious Solomon White, it was on a Currituck County genealogy website. It wasn't the actual will; I think it was something about court dates. I will find the actual print-out, but in my notes I have that there was a will dated April 8, 1729, for "Capt. Solon White" with the administrator being Henry White and a bond posted of $1,000 (make that pounds). I didn't understand the bond part, but even though I ignored this at first I thought there must certainly be a connection because of the name "Henry." On the 1724 deed drawn on the name of Elizabeth White, "the only heir of Patrick White," I will post that whole thing later when I have time to find it. It was actually posted on this website somewhere; the woman who posted it said this was not the first Patrick White (obviously) and she thought this one was living in England. I didn't read it that way, though; I think perhaps she had not researched what a Fairfax Grant was. From my memory (don't hold me to this), Fairfax Grants were on the Northern Neck in Virginia. There was a large proprietary grant to some nobleman, like the Lords Proprietors in the Carolinas. There was some dispute over titles, but because these grants were on proprietary property they don't show up in the other deed listings. I'm wondering if the first Patrick's son Solomon had an eldest son also named Patrick who was not named in the will (perhaps he had already received property). I have seen that before. In my family, at least, the naming pattern is so regular that it is possible to pinpoint gaps by looking for irregularities in the pattern. Among both the Tidewater Virginians and the backcountry Scots Irish, the tradition was to name the oldest son after the paternal grandfather, which would mean Solomon would have a first son Patrick and a second son named after his maternal grandfather. Instead, it appears his first son is named Henry after his maternal grandfather. I will check some more and see if there appears to be a good deal of regularity otherwise. (I hope this isn't scrambled, because I'm not looking at anything for reference) Notify Administrator about this message?
