I did do some research on the Whites in Ireland, which I will try to synopsize. I agree, this doesn't prove anything, but it sure is suggestive...I researched the history of the period, and this story is entirely consistent with Patrick White showing up in the Colonies. Also, the letter is correct that the Whites intermarried extensively with the Plunketts. I got the names of several books that apparently contain reference to him coming from Ireland, so I'm going to see if I can get those books at the university library nearby.

I was also always puzzled by how he seemed to do pretty well when he got here. As I mentioned, he was a principle in "Culpepper's Rebellion," so he was running with the "in crowd." Previous connections could be the answer.

Wish I could go to Ireland! I did find out there is a ruined castle at Clongill.
