Well that was a lot of info. I will focus on your intial point Margaret Forbes & Ivey Smith. (Too much other info) I took a minute and found them in the 1850 census, NC, Currituck Co, N. Banks dist, Roll M432_627, pg 213 (stamped), pg 425 wrtn, 21 Sep 1850, 797/798 Ivy Smith, 40, m, none (occupation), NC; Margaret Smith, 30, f, NC; John Smith, 7, m, NC; Samuel Smith 6, m, NC; Joshua Smith, 1, m, NC. No Smiths or Forbes on 2 previous or following pages. Normally, I do not jump around but the next item listed was Margaret Smith in the 1900 Census, Currituck Co, NC, Fruitville twp. (pg 27a) NOTE Cornelius SMITH (b. 1853) family is on this page! and he has a son Ivy J Smith! Wm Smith (b 1854) is on 2d prev pg Then Margaret shows up with Ivy in 1860 with a larger fam. 1860 NC, Currituck Co, Knotts Island Dist. Roll M653_895, pg 295-6/591-2, 5 Jul 1860,k 467/471 Ivy Smith 47, farm laborer, (all NC) Margaret Smith 38 Caroline Smith 19 John Smith 12 Edward Smith 19 Abby Smith 9 Samuel Smith 6 Margaret Smith 4 Sarah Smith 1 Then in 1870 & 1880 there either are NO hits Nationally for Ivy, Margaret or Cornelius or they DO NOT fit with earlier info. Note, I did not try the Smythe spelling. This is odd because they are there in Currituck 1850-60 and 1900 but gone in between. I'd look for other records or browse each page of the the Currituck censuses in the missing years. Another possibility is that they moved and were living with other family and reported wrongly. More likely they were just missed. Voter records (may be too early) may help if they are available. Look at the Currituck marriages for Smiths. Notify Administrator about this message?
