Hi James,
Thanks for your response. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find a social security # for my great grandfather. He worked for the D.C.government and the federal government and they had their own retirement system. I don't believe he was required to have a social security number at that time. At least there wasn't one listed on his application papers and I haven't been able to find one in the SS death index. I was hoping his parents would have been listed in his civil service record but they weren't. Thanks again for your suggestion. Debbie
