In David Sticks book "The Outerbanks of North Carolina" page 32, Henry Gibbs is mentioned as receiving a land grant for 540 acres in 1716 on Hatteras. If you have not checked in Currituck, you might want to explore that area as Dare was formed from Currituck. Hope this helps! I have been trying to locate information on John O'Neal who rec'd a land grant on Hatteras in the same year that Henry did. Perhaps someone reading this message can shed some light on this John.
