Granville County        077        Oxford        1746        Edgecombe County        John Carteret, 2nd Earl Granville (1690-1763), who inherited one-eighth share in the Province of Carolina through his great-grandfather George Carteret.

BASIC FACTS TO REMEMBER

* Granville County was formed in 1746 from Edgecombe County.
* Granville County borders Mecklenburg County, Virginia, and the North Carolina counties of Vance, Franklin, Wake, Durham, and Person (research may be necessary in the records of one or more of the neighbor counties).
* Many early Granville County settlers came to the area from Virginia. Your subject’s previous county of residence may be named in the first Granville County deed issued to him.

I was informed during a (my daughter's) class trip that there basically are only three categories of "County"or town maps from pre-1900-Military Maps- Maps for surveyors (mostly during train expansion or other "important major changes"- and if that town just happened to have a person who just happened to make a map for strictly personal reasons.

I did find this site http://lib.jrshelby.com/ but I doubt there is a "street" map.

or try http://www.granvillegis.org/

Ironically I stumbled upon this site a month ago while searching for a street map for the town my dad grew up in for a book I'm writing.

Good Luck
