I know there are many Kuykendall and Kirkendall families in Henderson Co. NC. I haven't come across any in Henderson Co. who spell their surname Coykendall. But I want to invite the males (MALES ONLY) to join the Kuykendall, Kirkendall, Coykendall or any other spelling of the surname chosen about 1706 in the State of New York. Our ancestor immigrant Jacob Luursen (Jacob son of Luur) arrived in New Amsterdam, New York in 1646 Descendants have spread across the Nation. Over the past 400 years or so, some of the various lines have failed to keep in touch with their roots and some are lost or claiming roots from other lines. The Male Y-chromosome DNA project is designed to prove the relationship from son to father, to father, etc all the way back to Jacob Luursen and beyond. This is an opportunity for our Kuykendall families to prove by their blood line, which branch of the family tree they belong. Won't you join us by clicking on the following link: http://familytreedna.com/surname_join?code=P25816 Results are already turning up some interesting situations. We have already seen the break between descendants of old Abraham Kuykendall (1719-1812) buried in Mud Creek Baptist Church Cemetery (land orginally belonged to him) and that of his brother Peter Kuykendall (1733-1783. We are seeing the break in the various sons of old Abraham. We need more to see if these breaks continue. We need more from the other lines from the immigrant as we have one who may be a descendant from another son of the Immigrant using the spelling "Kirkendall" who remained in the Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey areas. We have one who may solve the mystery of the identify of Abraham's second wife Bathsheba. We need you to help spread the word to join this very important project.
