I'm looking for some help finding evidence that links my GG Grandfather, James Henderson, b. in S.C. abt. 1803 with Richard Henderson (b. Granville Co. N.C. - d. Limestone Co, AL. and Mary (Polly) Tinsley (b. Laurens Co. S.C. - d. Limestone Co. AL.) What I've found over the last few years: The 1850 US Census of Marshall County, Ms. lists my GG Grandfather, James Henderson, as b. abt 1803 in S.C. The census indicates that his wife's name is Rebecca H., b. abt 1805 in TN., and it also shows 13 Henderson children living in the household. After researching this line, it appears that 8 out of the 13 children listed on the census are actually the children of James and Rebecca. Details: Sarah A Henderson b: Abt. 1826 in Alabama John H Henderson b: Abt. 1828 in Alabama William P Henderson b: Abt. 1830 in Alabama ...+Adeline E Presley b: Abt. 1830 in South Carolina James H Henderson b: Abt. 1832 in Tennessee Richard S Henderson b: Abt. 1834 in Tennessee ...+Samantha J b: 1833 in Alabama Robert Henderson b: Abt. 1836 in Mississippi David H Henderson b: Abt. 1838 in Mississippi Jethro Peyton Henderson b: abt 1842 in MS. d: abt 1899 AR. ...+Malinda Ann Craig b: Abt. 1849 in Tippah Co, MS. d: May 1898 in Saline Co, Arkansas A number of Family Histories indicate that one of Richard Henderson and Mary Tinsley's 14 children was named James Henderson, b. (either 1 Jan or 11 Jan) 1803, in Laurens Co., S.C. Many of these same Family Histories indicate that James was married on 28 Sep 1824 in Lauderdale County, AL. to Rebecca Guilbert b. Tn. After researching micro fiche of 1824 marriage records recorded in Lauderdale County, AL., I could find no record of a Rebecca Guilbert. However, I did find a record of a Rebecca Guthrie who married a James Henderson on 28 Sep 1824. I cross-checked many of the records that I found during my research against a transcription of Lauderdale Co. marriages contained on the Lauderdale Co. GenWeb site. The vast majority of these records matched - which leads me to believe that the name of Rebecca Guthrie could have been mistakenly transcribed to Rebecca Guilbert in the record contained on the Lauderdale Co. GenWeb site. This would indicate that the Family Histories alluded to above that show Rebecca Guilbert as the wife of James Henderson may be incorrect. The 1850 US Census record indicates that My GG Granfather and his family probably lived in Alabama from abt 1828 to abt 1831/32, in Tennessee from abt 1831/32 to abt 1834/35 and Mississippi from 1834/35 to abt 1842. I have based this assumption on the dates and places of birth of the children appearing in the Census. Indications are that James Henderson had either passed away or deserted his wife and family sometime after 1850. The 1860 Census shows Rebecca and three of her sons, Richard (with wife, Samantha and three children), David and Jethro living in Pulaski Co. AR. Another son, William P Henderson, is shown in the 1860 Census, still living in Marshall County, MS. with his wife, Adeline Presley, and 4 of their 7 children that had been born by 1860. Indications are that Rebecca passed away between 1861 and 1870. The only Hendersons in this line I could locate in the 1870 US Census were Jethro Peyton Henderson and his wife, Melinda Craig, residing in Pulaski Co. AR and William P Henderson residing in Tippah Co. MS. with his wife Adeline Presley and 6 of their 7 children born by 1870. What I do not know: I do not know if 'my' James Henderson is the son of Richard Henderson and Mary Tinsley. I do not know if James Henderson and Rebecca Guthrie that were married in Lauderdle Co. on 28 Sep 1824 are the same James and Rebecca that appear in the 1850 US Census of Marshall County MS. I do not know where or what date my GG Grandfather James Henderson died or where he is buried. I do not know what the last name of my GG Grandmother Rebecca is.I do not know where or what date my GG Grandmother Rebecca died (Pulaski Co. AR presumed), or where she is buried. I do not know the exact date of death my Great Granfather, Jethro Peyton Henderson (b. abt 1842 d. abt 1899), or where in Arkansas he is buried. I do not know where in AR. my Great Grandmother, Malinda Ann Craig is buried. (b. abt 1842 in MS. d. May 1898). My hunt will continue..... but if there are any of you Henderson researchers out there who can help me out with any or all of the above, I would be most grateful. If anyone is looking for detail on this line of Hendersons, let me know - will be glad to share what I have. Thanks in anticipation, Guy Henderson Tasmania Australia Notify Administrator about this message?
