T. Wooten Dies At Home At Cool Spring Township Mr. W. T. Wooten, of Cool Spring Township, died there this morning at 5:05 o'clock, death resulting from a complication of several diseases. He had been seriously ill for the past month. Mr. Wooten was 73 years old. {funeral arrangements} Mr. Wooten was born May 17, 1851. In 1891 he was married to Miss Mary Lazenby, who survives him with six children. They are Mr. Harrison Wooten, of Cool Springs Township; Messrs. George and Barnet Wooten, and Miss Dinah Wooten, who reside with their mother; Mrs. Gray Mason, of Charlotte; and Mrs. Charles Brown, of Statesville. Three brothers and two sisters also survive: Messrs. Rice and Augustus Wooten, Mrs. L. C. Holton, and Mrs. Mary Ann Reavis, of Cool Springs Township; and Mr. John Wooten, of Linville, TN. "The Landmark", 25 October 1926 Mr. Rice Wooten Takes His Own Life Lifeless Body of Aged Cool Springs Township Farmer Found Hanging in His Barn Loft At 2 O'Clock Sunday Morning- Had Been Despondent over Failing Eyesight and Bad Health The lifeless body of Mr. Rice Wooten, 64 years of age, was found hanging in his barn loft at 2 o'clock Sunday morning. He was a farmer, residing in Cool Springs Township, seven miles northeast of Statesville. Owing to impaired eyesight and failing health for several months, he had been despondent and family members suspected he had in mind self-destruction. No inquest was considered necessary, as it is generally understood that Mr. Wooten took his own life. Mr. Wooten went to bed as usual Saturday night. About 2 o'clock Sunday morning, however, members of the family discovered that he was out of the room and a search revealed that he had hanged himself in his barn loft. The rope used in accomplishing the deadly act was so well arranged and so securely tied that it is believed he must have made full preparation for the tragic affair the evening before when he went to feed his livestock. Mr. Wooten leaves his wife and one son, Ed. Wooten, of Cool Springs Township, and one daughter, Miss Laura Wooten, who lived at home with her parents. He is also survived by two brothers- Mr. John Wooten of Chattanooga, TN and Mr. Augustus Wooten, of Cool Springs Township- and two sisters- Mrs. William Reavis and Mrs. L. C. Holton of Cool Springs Township. {funeral arrangements} Now... to answer your original query... In 1830 there was an Mrs. Elizabeth Wooten listed. In 1840 there was Alvira, John, and Moses Wooton listed. You would have to research wills, estates, and deeds at the Iredell courthouse to determine which one that Lewis belonged to. They have deeds from 1788 but marriages are only from 1850. Notify Administrator about this message?
