Hello Tom You will definitely want to visit Heritage Place which is located on the campus of Lenoir Community College in Kinston (off of Hwy 58 south). It is attached to the main campus library. [FYI- I'm always nervous about the parking situation b/c it is a college campus & I don't have a campus sticker but the librarians told me to just park in front of the building & to let them know if I got a ticket. They will help you get rid of it since you are a patron of the Heritage library & not a student. I have always placed a little note saying I was at Heritage Place in my front window & I have not gotten a ticket yet]. Heritage Place has microfilm of the Kinston Free Press dating all the way back to 1888. A lot of the recent obits, births & other announcements have already been transcribed & are located on a computer (at least that is what I was told at one visit) so check with a librarian to see if 1962 has already been transcribed before you start plowing through the microfilm. Heritage Place has also assembled a great many books dealing with Eastern NC history & genealogy. If your family is from this region you might even find a complete pedigree & family history on the shelf. I couldn't locate the number to Heritage Place but you can call the college & they will either transfer you or give you their direct number. The librarians at Heritage Place can also probably point you in the direction of other places to visit while you are in town. I hope you enjoy your visit. Feel free to email me if I can help with any other info. Jennifer Gray Lenoir Community College main number (252) 527-6223 Fax number (252) 527-1199 Notify Administrator about this message?
