I just learned today that National Archives and Records Administration is planning to increase fees in May, 2007. To name a few: Military service records- from $17 to $25. Passenger arrival lists- from $17.25 to $25. Pension document packet- from $14.75 to $25. Full pension file (non Civil War)- from $37 to $60. Full Civil War pension file- from $37 to $125. That's right, $125. NARA will receive comments on the increase from "interested persons" until April 27, 2007. You can comment through the Federal eRulemaking Portal: http://www.regulations.gov , or write to Regulations Comments Desk (NPOL), Room 4100, Policy and Planning Staff, National Archives and Records Administration, 8601 Adelphi Road, College Park, MD 20740-6001. I urge everyone to let NARA know how they feel about this fee increase. Looks like full pension files are the hardest hit - 338% of the current price!!!!!!! If this increase is approved, many researchers will settle for ordering the "pension document packet," which, compared to the full pension file, is not worth a hill of beans. I would suggest to never order the document packet. To view documents concerning the increase, go to http://www.regulations.gov/fdmspublic/component/main Click- documents open for public comment. agency- select National Archives and Records Admin. - all. document type- all keyword - fee. This should bring up 2 documents. View both. Send NARA your thoughts. Pass this on to others. Dan Slagle Notify Administrator about this message?
