I am looking for information on Mark Proctor and Sallie Hancock Proctor ( both born abt 1806 - NC). I have found no information on Sallie's family yet. She and Mark are found in Cleveland Co., 1850, and in McDowell Co., 1860. The family is listed in 1850 census information as Mark Proctor, 45 yr / Sallie Proctor, 46 yr / Lissa Proctor, age 15 / Polly McEntire, age 14 / Elizabeth McEntire, age 13 / Martha McEntire, age 9 / Rufus McEntire, age 7 / and Sarah McEntire, age3/12. I am a descendent of Elizabeth's.
In 1860 records and later, McDowell Co., all children are going by the last name of Proctor, except that on Eliz (and other siblings) marriage certificates, the maiden name is listed as McEntire. Eliz.'s death certificate lists parents as Mark Proctor and Sallie Hancock. Rufus is buried in Chapel Hill Cemetery, with the name of Proctor on his gravestone. Elizabeth's first son, William LaFayette, also kept the name of Proctor throughout his life, and passed it on to his children, despite the fact his mother married John R. Mitchel and is buried as Elizabeth Mitchel, also at Chapel Hill. I am trying to get the connection to the McEntire name as there is a connection with Mark Proctor's sister being married to a McEntire (Louvinia Proctor McEntire), in Rutherford Co., NC. I am trying to find out who the parents of these children are. Also, Mark was living 3 households away from a Ransome McEntire and his family in Cleveland Co, in the 1850 census, and am trying to determine who Ransome's parents are, possibly a son of Louvinia's. Any information would be greatly appreciated; thanks in advance.
