Sorry. I don't have a copy of the marriage books. From Mecklenburg County, North Carolina Will Abstracts, 1791-1868, Books A - J by Herman W. Ferguson Unrecorded Wills - page 189 1305. JAMES YANDELL - dated January 13, 1797, probated in the January 1797 Court by one of the subscribing witnesses. . Being weak in body, I will to my wife, Martha, during her lifetime, her dower of my land to be laid off according to law, a bed and bedstead, her clothes, sidesaddle, dresser furniture, pots and ovens, my mare, three cows, and all the hogs for the support of my family. My sons JAMES, HENRY, and WILLIAM, are to continue to live with her and to assist her on the plantation (illegible, fold in page) until age 17. As each reaches that age, he is to be bound out to learn the following trades: James to a blacksmith, Henry to a carpenter and joiner, and William to a tailor. I give to my daughter ABIGAIL two cows and calves, and she is not to be charged for her raising. My wife is to have the use of my farming utensils, but all other movable effects are to be sold as well as the remainder of land after my wife's dower is laid off. From the proceeds my just debts are first to be paid, and the remainder is to be equally divided among my children, viz: ABIGAIL, JAMES, HENRY, WILLIAM, MARY, ROBERT, AND SAMUEL. All of my children are to receive common schooling. I give to my son ROBERT my share in the estate of his uncle Robert Walker, and from this legacy Robert's schooling is to be paid. The crop in the ground and my livestock are to be used for the support of my family. I give Abigail a mare. Executors James Johnston? and Moses Walker. Test: JAMES YANDELL Witnesses: William Wilson (who drafted the will), James Yandell (Jr?), and James Esselman (in German) (Editor's note: This will was proven in the January 1797 Court by James Yandell, Jr., James Esselman, and Moses Walker. The executors named in the will came into court and were qualified, and why it was not recorded is not evident.) Good luck, Linda Murray Notify Administrator about this message?
