Brooks - Gurley Connection

Hi all!

I am currently trying to fill in some holes on my family's genealogy and one of them concerns a possible daughter of WILLIAM BROOKS I of Montgomery Co, NC (later Stanly Co.). Her name is ELIZABETH BROOKS (if his daughter) and she married a DAVID GURLEY, son of JAMES GURLEY and who I believe is named LYDIA ADELINE ? I think even she may be a Brooks. Oh what a mixed up group this is! The Gurleys lived within hollerin' distance of WILLIAM BROOKS I there on his Rocky River land, north side of the river, directly opposite Anson Co, NC and later (1841) Union Co, NC. To make matters even more confusing for us, up until 1841, when Union Co, NC formed from Mecklenburg and Anson, the Brooks and Gurleys were practically on the county line between them... so they lived at a corner between three counties. Thankfully, I feel that the Gurleys lived mostly on the northern, or Montgomery Co side of the Rocky River. They undoubtedly were related to my Brooks.

My family can be found at:

Thank you and looking forward to speaking with all interested peoples!
