Gray or Smyrk connection in Charlotte NC, 1800s

I'm trying to find a Charlotte, NC connection to a Gray family in Maryland, as referenced in the following obituary, published in The Sun, Baltimore Maryland, June 27, 1884:

"SMYRK--At her late residence, Elwood, near Jeseupa [? - print unclear], Ann Arundel county, Md., on the morning of June 26, 1884, ANN ELIZA, beloved wife of Alfred E. Smyrk, and third daughter of the late Stephen Gray and Sarah Gray. (Charlotte (N.C.) papers please copy.)"

This may be the Stephen Gray of the following obituary in The Sun (Baltimore, Maryland), on Nov. 27, 1841:

"On the 23rd inst., at his late residence in Ann Arundel county, Mr. Stephen Gray, in the 52nd year of his age."

Ann Eliza Gray was born about 1831 and married Alfred E. Smyrk on Jan. 5, 1854 in Baltimore. He immigrated from England as a child and his family settled in Maryland, so I suspect the Grays are the Charlotte, NC connection. Perhaps one of the other Gray daughters lived there?
