I managed to track down a book by James Reford Voss -"Voss, Joseph of NC & Some of his Descendants 1752-1900." A copy is in the Lawrence County Archives in Tennessee. I sent an e-mail to the archives and I received this response:
Joseph is the father of William Voss (b. 1778 married Elizabeth Orr on Apr. 4, 1799) and John Voss (b. 1776 married Susanna Porter on May 16 1799).
I asked for photocopies of the book, but have not received them yet, so I do not have the dates for Joseph Voss Jr. Some info on the book is at http://home.lorettotel.net/~lcarchives/tablec29.htm
"Joseph Voss, Sr. b. 1720-1723, married Mary before 1744. As a result of his service in the Rev. War, Joseph Voss, Jr. received a land grant in Dickson Co., TN, in 1808. The author descended through Ezekiel, son of John Voss, and grandson of Joseph Voss, Jr."
I am not sure what the relationship is to Thomas Voss. I have come across some other postings that indicate there is a group of Vosses from the 1600's to 1700's in NC, but I have not found the linkage with Joseph Voss.
Any other information you or anyone else might have on this would be greatly appreciated.
