Note: It is interesting to note that according to various sources of information that James Alexander Walkup was born at sea, and the date of his birth is given as 1724. He was reared in Pennsylvania, moved to Virginia and married Margaret. He was destined to become the progenitor and ancestor of the Walkup family in North Carolina and play and important part in the American Revolution on the side of the colonies. On his tombstone in the Old Waxhaw Presbyterian Cemetery near Lancaster, S.C. it is shown that he died Feb 1, 1798, at 74 years of age.
