My mistake!! Levi W. Hipp *did* marry a second time. I had an incorrect date of death for Matilda. Today I had a chance to study Sarah Westbrooks' exceedingly well documented "North Carolina Hipps and their descendants,vol. 1" and discovered that Matilda's tombstone shows she died in 1891. In August of that year Levi W. married Malissa Jane Coffee (1838-1909). Nevertheless, when he died in 1899 he was buried beside his first wife Matilda.
The book also gives names and dates for all ten children--6 sons, 4 daughters.
