Cole Families in late 1700's Sussex/Surry NC

I have two documents (1939 & 1960's) passed on to me from earlier researchers. They indicate some of my earliest families members came from NC after/during the Rev. War.

Here is the information i have:

John Cole (1728) may have married a Duke. They had at least three sons; Mathew Cole, Duke Cole, and William Cole.

William Cole married Miss Whittaker 3 Oct (a handwritten note indicates her first name may have been Hannah) William Cole was a spy for the American forces, was captured, and died in prison at Georgetown, SC. they had one child i know of, Robert Cole, 6 July 1775 born Sussex co NC.

While she was a widow, Whitakker married a Mr. Comb at
Sussex Co. NC.

If any one has any info, or tips, please let me know.

Thanks,

Blue Cole
