Keep looking in North Carolina. A man named Richard Cheek lived along the Tar River in Edgecombe Co., NC as early as 1737. Richard had several sons one of which moved to Anson Co., NC in about 1760 and whom Cheeks Creek, in what is now Montgomery and Richmond Counties, is named after. I believe but cannot prove that one of Richard Cheeks daughters was the wife of Samuel Swearingen Jr my 6th great-grandfather. According to deed records Samuel Swearingen Jr lived next door to Richard Cheek and one of his sons was named Richard Cheek Swearingen.
