John Alexander Woods, Lincoln Co. NC to Gonzales Co. TX

Look for any family info. on my 2 great-grandfather, John Alexander Woods, b. 1814-1820 in possibly Lincoln Co. NC. Family oral history notes that he was related to the Abernathy, Ballard, and Williams families; a Moses Abernathy was his uncle. He had a sister called Nancy, who married Johnathan Long in 1830 in Lincoln Co. After serving in the Mexican-American War, John settled in Gonzales Co. TX where he died in 1880. Does anyone know who his parents were; census data notes they were born in VA?
