Wow, thanks for your offer to help. I have hit a roadblock. I have info about my grandfather, Rodney Sawyer. Most of it I got from him prior to his death in 1969. I know very little about his father, my great-grandfather. Here is what I do know: His last name was Sawyer. He married 3 times. His first wife, my great-grandmother, was a Clayton (probably Elizabeth) who died in childbirth or shortly thereafter.
I have sent a request to the Beaufort County Register of Deeds to see if they can locate a record of any of my great-grandfather's marriages. Hopefully they will be able to provide me with more information - like a first name. I will definitely let you know what I find. It would be great to find another Sawyer relative.
