Alvin, I haven't researched this Henry, but this is what I have from looking at all of the Taylors in New Hanover. 1860 Northampton Co., ED 9, page 12: [Could be him] Henry Taylor, 35, mulatto, ditcher, b. NC Sarah, 25, mulatto Turner Tun?, 27, ditcher 1870 you have Wilmington 1880 Wilmington ED 144 Henry Taylor, 56 mulatto Emily John E., 23 Mariah, 20 Sarah L., 15 Robert, 13 Lida, 22, daughter in law [married to John E.] New Hanover Deed Index, Grantors, N-T, FHL film #19379: 1892 Gift Deed from John E., Sarah L., Robert R. Taylor; To Emily Taylor; Book 9, page 167. [They must have given their inheritance from their father, to their mother] New Hanover Estate Records FHL film #2385741: 1897 #1534-1536 [I don't know if this is a file number or page number] Emily Taylor - heirs John E. Taylor, Robert R. Taylor, Sarah Whitman. Mary and Silia Shober are minor children of Harris Pantora?, deceased daughter-in-law. I do not see any Henry that fits, in the estate records. There are some Henrys in the deeds index, but it is unclear if any are this Henry. John E. Taylor is in the Ancestry NC Death Certificates: John E. Taylor, colored, wife Lida, born Feb 24, 1858, died Aug 13, 1925, Wilmington. Father is Henry Taylor, born Fayetteville, NC; mother is Emily, born Fayetteville, NC John E. is also in the US Freedmen Bank Records, Ancestry, in DC. It names his parents and siblings. He is a student at Howard University in 1871. That's all I have. It seems like Fayetteville, NC might be a good place to start if you are looking for his parents. Hope that helps.
