Tracy, I assume that, in the body of your message, you meant 1836, as in the title. If not, this fellow, had he served in the War of 1812, was awfully old. Regarding a death record, exactly what kind of death record are you looking for? The vast majority of counties and towns in North Carolina did not keep vital statistics, with the exception of marriage records, until 1912-1913, when it became mandated by law. If you are looking for a will or and estate record, I would suggest that you begin your search in either Gates County, NC or Pasquotank County, NC. I mention Gates County because the surname Savage, and its variations, was much more common in Gates County than in Pasquotank County. As a matter of fact, there was, I'm not sure if there still is, a town named Savage in Gates County. Pasquotank County is the county bounding the eastern/southeastern side of Gates County. Elizabeth City is the county seat of Pasquotank County. Frequently, families from the Gates County area overlap into Pasquotank, usually in the northern part of Pasquotank known as Newland. I live in Pasquotank County and have many relatives in the surrounding counties, including Gates. I can look through some of the information I have on the Savage family, but, as that family is related to mine only through the marriage to some in-laws of my great-great grandmother, I doubt I have anything on your particular line. If I do find anything, I'll e-mail you directly. Harvey Harrison Notify Administrator about this message?
