According to a family story, Isaac Slaughter...the older brother of my great greatgrandfather...got into a fight with a Mr. Tingen in Person County around the end of 1878 or so. The fight was started over remarks Mr. Tingen made about Isaac's wife. This Mr. Tingen died in the fight and Isaac supposedley fleed the area. Rumors are that he came to Texas, as he was seen at a Civil War Reunion by some old comrades and asked them to take a message back to his family that he was well and had remarried.
Does this ring a bell with anyone? I am trying to find more information about it and the identity of Mr. Tingen.
FYI, Isaac's wife was the sister of my great greatgrandmother. Her name was Amelia Annie Summerhill Slaughter.
Thank you for your time.
