My great-great grandmother Martha Davenport was born in April 1841, possibly in Pitt County. Since this is during slavery I am not sure if she was born a Davenport or married a Davenport in later years. She had four children two of which were Robert & George Davenport. Robert was mulatto and born around August 1873. I know that his father owned farmland in Pitt county and he sharecropped this land with his wife Arsena and 11+ children. Arsena's parents were Warren Chance and Mary Thomas. Her father was born in Pitt County amd mother Edgecombe county. I am looking for anyone that can tell me who may have owned any 'Davenports' in Pitt county and if there were any farm owners by the name of Carson or Cason during that time... The Davenports have ties to the Chances, Thomas, Statons, Hines, and Webbs. They lived in Upper Conetoe, Edgecombe county. please email me at jabceb@gmail.com with any information you may have.
