There is a Robert E Lee listed on the 1900 Greenville, Pitt, NC census. His mother is Sallie D, b Aug 1847 VA. She has a son, William F, b Mar 1867, married to Etta H for 2 years. Robert, b Jul 1874 in Lousiana, is listed as married 4 years, but it does not list his wife. Annie H., b March 1899, is the child of William and Etta. Virgil, the youngest son, was b NC in Jul 1879. It looks to me like Robert was separated from his wife and child and living with his mother.
Without knowing the name or birth year of your cousin, I can't try to find them.
