Teri,
Thanks for posting and good luck in your efforts as I know it isn't easy to reconstruct the migration paths of ROGERS families.

Since posting this on the Pitt Co. NC ROGERS, I have found my original notes on this land deed and need to correct the misinformation I had posted for it wasn't in the Anson Co. NC Deed book but in the Duplin Co. NC deed books which says following per a fellow researcher of those Rogers in Duplin Co. NC and he wrote this to me pertaining to the JAMES ROGERS of Duplin and Sampson Co. NC ( believed to be son of Peleg Rogers and Isabell Brand. Isabell Brand Rogers died in Wilmington NC and Peleg and his children, including James, then came into the region of Duplin Co. NC where they settled. If they are indeed the RHODE ISLAND ROGERS as claimed, then they are not a DNA MATCH with my line of ROGERS in Anson, for one or more persons have now done the DNA Testing on the RHODE ISLAND ROGERS and they don't match my Anson Co. NC/ MONTGOMERY CO. NC line of James Rogers, Jr. and his son William Rogers. :

"Max R. Petersons Volume 2, covering Books 4, 5, and 6 of Sampson-Duplin Deeds, spans the period of interest, and it contains two records for James Rogers that fall into the time period when James was thought to be in Anson County. Here they are:"

"Book 6, page 12. Deed: James Rogers to Major Croom (of Dobbs County). Dated 22 January 1777 (2nd year "of the United States and Commonwealth of North Carolina"). Trans.: 40 pounds for 100 acres "on the West side of the North East of Cape Fear Beginning... in the <illegible> swamp Between Anthony Miller and and (sic) a place called Clark's Folly." Deed mentions Stephens' clearings. Land was granted to Job Hunter by patent dated 28 February 1764. Wit.:Robert Dickson and William Houston."

"Book 6, page 54. Deed: Arthur Howell (of Johnston(?) County) to James Rogers. Dated 7 February 1778. Trans.: 120(?) pounds for 225 acres of land <rest illegible>. Wit.: James <illegible>, William <illegible>, and <illegible name>."

"In the 22 January 1777 deed James is SELLING 100 acres, and in the 7 February 1778 deed he is BUYING 225 acres."

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

During this period of time, my James Rogers, Sr. and son James Rogers, Jr. were in Anson Co. NC so I assume that as James Rogers, Sr. was in Anson until at least 1779, then this is not our JAMES ROGERS in these Deeds unless he was going back and forth between Anson and Sampson/ Duplin Co's NC, which is possible, I suppose. However, we know the Duplin Co. NC Rogers also included SANDERS surnames but can't now recall if they were family members or just neighbors.

I will certainly send your posting to my ROGERS DNA Group who may have BROWN family members for we know that one DNA match may, but think it is on his maternal line and not on his paternal line of ROGERS. However, his family was in Weakley Co. TN, so it is possible there are many ROGERS in Carroll Co. TN yet to be discovered if they have connections to my William L. Rogers, and his children who were Ezekiel Rogers, Basil Rogers, William R. Rogers, James Rogers, Alsey Rogers, Purity E. Rogers, Minter Lee Rogers, Joshua A. G. Rogers, Celia Rogers, Nancy G. Rogers, Frederick Rogers. So those are our known Rogers in both Dist. 16 and 17 in the period of 1830's.

Now the ones we need more info on living in Carroll Co. TN by name of ROGERS in the 1836 CARROLL Co. TN TAX LIST : Our ROGERS again are William Rogers, his children, Ezekiel, Basil, Frederick, Wm. R., Joshaua A. G. Rogers, James Rogers living in Dist. 16 but all other of our Rogers are in Dist. 17, but who is TOBIAS W. ROGERS, and LITTLETON ROGERS in Dist. 17 as well ? We think Tobias W. Rogers is son of a TOBIAS ROGERS of CHATHAM Co. NC, but we don't have proof yet. We also have been told that LITTLETON ROGERS is a son of an ELISHA ROGERS but no proof either. The same info said that Littleton, Clabourn, and Cantrell are all brothers thus sons of Elisha but I haven't any info on Elisha Rogers to prove this, since the reseracher who stated that sent me no verifications of any kind. We do have Court records of Tobias W. Rogers however, and the researcher of that line has done some good work in putting together his line in Chatham Co. NC, previous to Carroll Co. TN records. - Tina
