Hi Patricia,
I personally haven't run across any missing records from the courthouse. Now of course if you are talking about records from the 1700's, that is different. I don't think those documents were recorded. There are records that we know of that are missing from the poor house records, but that wasn't from someone in the court house. Maybe others have had a problem. I can't find where some folks are buried, but it isn't a record missing issue. All of my issues are legitimate probs, being intestate, or something like that. I have been able to find wills, etc. I will tell you this---Some bastardy bonds were located at Hege Library at Guilford College and are soon to be printed in maybe the next Randolph County Genealogy Journal, which is wonderful, I'm breathlessly anticipating. Maybe I have just been really lucky, I'm generally am able to find what I am looking for. All marriages, etc. I just last week requested 2 petitions that we know existed, we have them printed in the RC Journals, from 1785 and 1788 and somehow, they just disappear - gone - from the NC Archives even. And unfortunately, people still to walk off with books or papers our of our Randolph Room or the library itself. A real tragedy for those of us really trying to do research. It's always something isn't it!!!
