John Walker vs. Colonel John Walker - Cane Creek

I'm trying to determine if John Walker, married to Jane Ann Guffey, father of Jeremiah Walker, is the same Colonel John Walker mentioned on the Rutherford Co. heritage website. Info on both mentions Cane Creek, but I can't confirm if they were the same. Would love info on these early Walkers.
