James M. Schoonover
James Marion Schoonover was born Dec. 30, 1859, in Mason county, Ill., and died Dec. 1, 1943, at Bryan Memorial hospital, just a month before he would have been 84. He was married July 7, 1885, to Barbara Adeline Howell at Virginia, Ill., and five children were born to them, all surviving their parents: Arthur E. and Gertrude of Lincoln, Harry O. of Minneapolis and Mrs. Itha Mae Hall of Lushton. Mrs. Schoonover died July 1, 1938, at the home in David City. On July 31 of the next year Mr. Schoonover married Mrs. Nettie Ann Briggs at Davenport, Ia., who survives him, with six grandchildren and a great granddaughter. Mr. Schoonover joined the Baptist church as a young man in Illinois, and all his life was a devoted student of the Scriptures. Funeral services were held Dec. 4 at David City, Rev. C. F. Stark of Lincoln officiating, and burial was in the town cemetery.

Deaths of 2 Apparently From Heat
Lincoln’s scorching heat wave has apparently claimed the lives of two elderly women. Ella g. Schoonover, 78, of 431 So. 12th, apt. C1, and her sister, Gertrude Schoonover, 72, of the same address, were found dead in ther bed Thursday morning. Deputy Sheriff Vince McNeil, who acted as sheriff’s coroner, said the women appparently died of heat stroke. Autopsies indicated that the older woman, died Tuesday night while the other died about 12 hours later. Ella Schoonover worked with the Back to the Bible program and Gertrude Schoonover was a retired school teacher.
