Seeking living descendants to exchange old photos and information with from the following family:
Augustus Hessel b. 11 May 1823 d. 26 Dec 1901 married 1852 Anna 'Margaret' Simon. They immigrated in 1857 from the Schleswig-Holstein area, province of Prussia and first went to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania where he was a laborer and small farmer on 3 acre plot. They moved to Hall County, Nebraska by 1890 and had nine children:
1. John 'Adam' Hessel born 13 Sept 1855 d. 25 Nov 1943 who married Elizabeth F. (Roth) Lessig. They had a combined family of stepchildren and children, 10 in all:
Frederick 'Fred' William Hessel, Anna Margaret Hessel, Albert Adam Henry Hessel, Lillie Rubina Wilhelmina Hessel, Francis Frieda Lessig, Joseph Franz Heinrich Lessig, Earl Lessig, Mabel Gertrude Lessig, John Jacob Lessig, Carl Gottlieb Lessig, S.G. 'Lizzie' Lessig.
2.Frederick 'Fred' William Hessel born Jan 1858 d. 10 Nov 1940 married Annie E. Barbar. They had: Jennie Hessel, Charles Cleveland Hessel, Lena Barbara Hessel.
3. Joseph 'Joe' Hessel born 10 Jan 1860 d. 22 June 1942. Believed never married, no issue.
4. Mary Johanna Hessel born 1862.
5. Margaret Hessel born circa 1864, married Aug 1892 Charles 'Oliver' Billingsley and had two children: Ethel Billingsley and Benjamin Franklin Billingsley.
6. Elizabeth Hessel born 2 May 1866 d. 24 Feb 1941 married 1 Oct 1897 Charles V. Poor. Had two twin daughters: Jessie Poor and Bessie Poor. Elizabeth (Hessel) Poor began spelling her last name Pore after the death of her husband in 1901.
7. Augustus J. 'Gus' Hessel Jr. b. 17 Jan 1870 d. 3 May 1945 married Mary J. (Unknown). They had two sons: Bernard Edward Hessel and Leo Gus Hessel.
8. Martin Hessel born Aug 1872 married Cassie D. (possibly Shipton). They had; Evelyn Hessel and Marion Hessel.
9. Sarah Lonie Hessel born Dec 1874 married unknown Neville.
I do have some old photos of the Hessel family. All of the above nine children were born in Harrisburg, PA but later moved with their parents to Hall County, Nebraska. I have had a difficult time locating living descendants of the Hessels who remained in the Grand Island area of Hall County, NE.
