I can only give the brief history of our part of the family :
In 1937 my grandmother (Winnie Maxwell), having moved from Scotland to London, got herself pregnant to a man who refused marriage. He ran - leaving her alone. In February 1938 my father was born - by which time my grandmother had changed her name to Neaves, the father's name - and put it about that they had married quickly, but he had then died in the war. My father grew, never knowing his father, and as he grew he had the feeling his mother was lying and his father was alive somewhere. He became a nurse and in 1962 joined the army. In 1964 I was born and in 1968 my sister Sarah was born. Between these years we moved with the army all over the world and in 1985 I left home and moved to Burnley in Lancashire, England. In 1987 my Grandmother died, and my father then found paperwork which confirmed his fears. He father was alive, but he had no idea how to contact him. For a long time he became depressed re this - it must be hard to know you're Dad is out there - maybe. He never did find him. In 1988 I married Gill a nurse I met when I too was training to become a nurse. In 1990 I left the Health service and joined Lancashire Constabulary as a Scenes of Crime Officer where I remain t this day - now a supervisor of a very busy Division. In 1992 my son Adam was born, and in 1994 my daughter Jessica followed. My parents remain to this day fit and healthy, living in Scotton, Catterick Garrison, North Yorkshire, where they moved to when he retired, having reached the rank of Major. My father left school with no qualifications, no father - but a determination to succeed - which I believe he did. If I can make him half as proud as I am of him - I will live a happy life.
