I lift up my eyes to the hills-where does my help come from?

My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of Heaven and Earth

Psalm 121:1,2

Bakker
Mrs. Aaltje (Alie) “Alice” Bakker (nee: Buitenhuis) age 82 years passed away peacefully at her residence, Pioneer Ridge on February 23, 2008. She was born on December 2, 1925 in Rouveen, the Netherlands. There she met and married her husband Tjeerd in 1949. Together they immigrated to Canada, first moving to Winnipeg, then moving to Hymers where they started a dairy farm. From there, they moved to Slate River where they owned and operated another dairy farm until retirement in 1990. Aaltje worked on the farm making sure there was always coffee and food on the table and helping out with chores, feeding the calves. She loved to knit and crochet, making many beautiful bedspreads and tablecloths over the years. Gardening was another one of her pastimes, especially flowers, she had a “green thumb”. She was predeceased by her husband Tjeerd (Ted) in 1999, both parents, two brothers and three sisters. She is survived by her son Aart (Debbie), daughter Linda (Lyndon), grandchildren Melissa, Travis, Jordan, Allison (Tyler), Cheryl, 2 brothers and 3 sisters, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 28, 2008 at 11:00am in the First Christian Reformed Church, with Rev. Henry Vander Beek officiating. Interment will follow at Stanley Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 7:00pm to 9:00pm in Blake Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario or the Alzheimer’s Society of Thunder Bay would be greatly appreciated.

A tree will be planted in memory of Aaltjie Bakker in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove. Annual dedication service Sunday, June 28, 2009.
