Newcomb Lincolnshire UK 17th 18th C
Just discovered this line in my familiy. Anyone tracing the same? Susanna Rusling was baptised in Althorpe LIN on 09 NOV 1750, to Robert Rusling and Susanna Newcomb. They had married in 1741 in Althorpe LIN. Susannah may well be the baby baptised in Gainsborough on 20 JAN 1713 to George and Elizabeth Newcombe. Certainly the indexer for the only other entry for that name on the IGI is anything but sure where she was born or when. George and Elizabeth were married in Gainsborough around 1708. He is almost certainly the George Newcomb baptised in the village of Scotton (Gainsborough RD) on 07 OCT 1683, whose father was another George.
This George Newcomb was married to Susanna Naylor in Scotton on 02 DEC 1682, and, not surprisingly, was born in Scotton on 30 Jun 1653. His father was Thomas Newcomb, who had married Ann Stadderd on 25 NOV 1676, also in Scotton. Thomas had been baptised in Scotton on 30 NOV 1650 . His father was another Thomas Newcombe. We cannot be sure where this Thomas was born. There is a Thomas Newcombe who married on 24 JAN 1622 in Surfleet, Lincoln, but that is 27 years before our known Thomas’birth. This is not impossible, if the wife (who, in this case would be Janne Cawood), were very young, but Surfleet is a long way from where our Thomas was born, in the south of Lincoln.
It is more likely that the marriage of Thomas senior took place in or closer to Scotton, but has not bee indexed on the IGI yet.
