Although I haven't found a solid source of proof, the evidence of Henry Newcomb's will in leaving property to Daniel Mayes has lead researchers to believe that his daughter Elizabeth Newcomb was the wife of John Mayes, who was the father of Daniel Mayes. The only other evidence is from the book "Genealogical Notes on a Branch of the Mayes Family" by Edward Mayes, who states on Page 14 "Daniel Mayes, son of John Mayes, who married a daughter of Henry Newcomb."Where he came by that information, I don't know.
The property that Daniel received in Newcomb's will was "granted July 10, 1680 to Henry Newcombe, and said Newcombe in will dated March 21, 1682 devised unto Daniel Mayes in fee, after death of Elizabeth Newcombe, and by death of Daniel Mayes the said land descended to John Mayes as heir at law to said Daniel." (May 98, 1721, Prince George County, Virginia Wills, page 492"
The wife of Daniel is unknown.
