Dear John,
I think we might be related. My parents are
Gerlando Lumia and Joan (Nicosia) Lumia. I
think that your grandfather was my mothers
uncle. A few months ago I returned from a
month in Sicily, and I became very interested
in my genealogy. I have been asking a million questions about all my grandparents & their families and I remembered the name
Epifanio Nicosia. Also in the village of
Palma Di Montechiaro where I think your Grandfather was born (in the provence of
agrigento) there were Sambitos that my mother
said were from our family. Only I don't remember if they were actually blood or
pisans????? Now you might know all of this already, but I could not pass up your inquiery. My mothers father died when she was about 16 years old, and as I am finding out is that not to many stories or facts about families were told in the new country.
I'm pretty sure that your parents are Pete
& Columbia????? My parents are still alive
and in good health. Maybe you could let me
know if I have the right information & than
I can dig up any thing you might not know.
I find all this geneology very interesting.
Like in Sicily I went to this church and found my grandfathers(salvatore Lumia) birth
certificate in a book they kept dated 1885
the year he was born. Have you been to Sicily????If not you must someday go. I loved so much and would live there if I did'nt have family here. I hope to go back in September. To visit cemateries and investigate alot more about the Nicosia's that I did't get to because I was visiting
with my cousins who are Cacciatores and Lumia's. Also I was in Palermo alot of the
time. It really overwhelmed me and I plan to be much more organized on my next trip.
Also when I returned I joined a Sicilian
Culturale Club. Most of the members are in their 70's 80's & 90's and being that I'm 53
they are real excited about new interest. It really makes me sad in some ways for my
grandparents and the big Sunday get togeathers we always had. We still are close but nothing is the same without those oldtimers. Thank God we were lucky enough to have experienced them, the love, the food
and just how wonderful it is to be SICILIAN.
Well John I hope I haven't e-mailed you
to death. Hope to hear from you one way or
another. And if were not related GOOD LUCK
in your search. Ciao Christina (Los Angeles)
