Nicosia Name History (Supposedly)

I wanted to share this bit of wisdom or folklore about the Nicosia name. I was flying from Hartford to Dallas a few years ago and there was seated next to me a Salvatore Nicosia from the Hartford CT area who had done some research on our family name. (He actually saw that there was another Nicosia on the flight and asked to be seated next to me) He said that the Nicosia name was orignally from Cyprus, Greece (as many Sicilian bloodlines are...Greece was the western most point in the Greek Empire, called Magna-Grecia if I recall correctly) There were two notorious Nicosia brothers from Nicosia Cyprus, who got in trouble with the authorities and were deported from the island. They emigrated to Sicily and stettled the town of Nicosia, Sicily. CAN ANYONE VALIDATE THIS STORY? I am sure that the town of Nicosia, Sicily can provide some insight.

I believe that my grandfather was from Agrigento and emigrated to the USA via Elis Island in the 1920's. He was a blacksmith in Sheepshead Bay area of Brooklyn.
